Van de Graaf Sr takes full ownership of the company in 1981. This moment marks the upgrade to more work for Baggerbedrijf De Boer. Baggerbedrijf de Boer acquires a barge and has it converted into a hopper dredger, called the Adelaar, at the Baars shipyard in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. With the motto “An ounce of luck is better than a pound of wisdom”, the job boosts the company’s growth. A challenging job that far exceeds the original estimated tender sum because of primeval forests found underwater. He works ambitiously and wins the tender for a major job on the Nieuwe Merwede. Kees van de Graaf Sr takes over part of the shares of Baggerbedrijf De Boer in 1976. In the mid-1970s, Baggerbedrijf de Boer invested in larger bucket dredgers: the Chris A and the Arend, with which the company could compete better with other dredging companies. ![]() responded to a call in Cobouw magazine and became involved in the company. For this job, the company looked for an engineering consultant in the field of operational management. With the expansion of the Veerhaven harbour in Breskens, the company obtained a major job in 1969. In 1963, for example, the company dredged the harbours of Vlieland and Terschelling and in 1965 they deepened the Harinxmakanaal in Friesland. Arie de Boer, and later his sons as well, focused on dredging ports and canals. The family business started with a small bucket dredger, called the Oude IJssel. In 1960, dredging company Baggerbedrijf De Boer was founded in Zaandam by Eit Arend – Arie – De Boer. The company specializes in maintenance dredging and is active in more than twenty countries, ranging from the Netherlands to New Zealand, and from Kazakhstan to Brazil to Egypt. In 2020, Baggerbedrijf De Boer celebrates her 60 year anniversary.
